Money Moves to Take You From Daydreams to Done

You’ve got big dreams. A debt-free life. A beach vacation. A paid-off home. Enough in the bank to sleep well at night.

But dreaming without direction? That’s like having a treasure map with no “X.”

To go from “I wish” to “I did,” you need to start mapping your money moves.

Let’s break it down.

3 Things to Know in Making Money Moves

Yesterday I was traveling and Google Maps just wouldn’t cooperate.  It wouldn’t pick up my current whereabouts.  I’m sure you wouldn’t use GPS without dropping a pin for your current location, right? Same thing with your finances.

Before you can make any moves, you need to know:

  • How much you make

  • Where your money is going

  • What you already have (and what you owe)

This part isn’t about shame—it’s about clarity. Think of it like checking your dashboard before a road trip. You’re just getting a read on fuel, tires, and snacks (aka: income, debt, and spending 😉).

Pick One Money Move to Start

You can’t go five places at once – sometimes we might wish we could! But what’s your next milestone?

👉 Want to get out of credit card debt?
👉 Build a survival fund?
👉 Save for a girls’ getaway or finally upgrade that 20-year-old couch?

Pick ONE money move and write it down. Be specific. “Save $500 in 60 days” is way better than “have savings.” Take a second and think about that!  It’s more precise and it gives clear instructions to your mind.  It’s amazing what this does for your subconscious – it gives you clarity.  And clarity creates action.

Plot the Route (and Expect Detours)

Let’s say your goal is saving $500 in 60 days. That’s roughly $8–$9 per day. What can you adjust to get there?

Try this:

  • Cut one weekly takeout meal = $30 saved

  • Cancel unused subscriptions = $25/month

  • Sell a few things on FB Marketplace = quick $100

Small tweaks can move mountains. You’re not giving things up—you’re trading them for something better.

Build in Checkpoints

Just like road trips need bathroom breaks, your money map needs checkpoints.

  • Set a reminder every Friday to review your progress – and be consistent.  Show up for your money review.

  • Celebrate when you hit a mini-milestone (yes, coffee shop reward counts)

  • If life throws you a detour, reroute—don’t quit (think of your GPS voice saying “rerouting, rerouting”)

Consistency beats perfection every time.
